On today, November 11, 2008, we at OFRG along with all Oklahomans take a moment to ponder and reflect on the bravery, courage, and sacrifice of those who have served in the Armed Services.

Veteran’s Day was first set into law in 1938 and is observed on the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I – November 11, 1918.  On this sacred day, we are reminded that freedom is never free.

To all our veterans – we thank you and salute you.

The Star-Spangled Banner

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight’
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

The old adage says not to count your chickens before they hatch, but with the new Republican majority in the state Senate, Oklahomans should expect more taxpayer friendly legislation to pass next session.

Republicans took majority of the  Oklahoma State Senate this year for the first time in history.  Picking up two seats, they now control the Senate 26-22.  In the past, the Senate has been known as the graveyard where good bills would go to die.

Last session, Oklahomans for Responsible Government advocated a  term limits bill for secondary state-wide elected officials.  After passing overwhelmingly in the House, we saw it come short by one vote in the Senate.

Other important legislation such as tax cuts, school choice, and lawsuit reform never advanced either, but with new pro-growth business minded officials, OFRG is excited that common sense bills will finally be passed in the State Senate.

OFRG will again advocate for policy issues that limit the growth of government and build accountability into the process.

We are excited to see candidates across Oklahoma, men and women who stand for limited and transparent government, win their respective races last night.

Oklahomans for Responsible Government looks forward to working with all elected officials in protecting personal freedoms and increasing accountability throughout all levels of government across our state.

Oklahomans for Responsible Government wants to encourage everyone to cast their vote today and make an educated decision regarding candidates and local issues.

We are fortunate to live in such a country where we can actively participate in our government year round and elect those who represent us in all levels of government.
