Gubernatorial candidates from both parties came out against State Question 744 in a Tulsa World article today.  Attorney General Drew Edmondson says it may be unenforceable and would take money from other agencies.  Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins says it would hurt Higher Ed, Career Tech and early childhood education.  State Senator Randy Brogdon says it would have a terrible impact on the budget and would remove control from the legislature.  Congresswoman Mary Fallin could not attend the forum because of her duties in Washington, but OFRG contacted her campaign to get her views on SQ 744 and she agrees that SQ 744 is an unfunded mandate in the middle of a budget crisis that would be disastrous.

So the list of elected officials going on record opposing State Question 744 is growing and includes members of both parties.  The next Governor, the next Democratic Leader in the House, the Republican House Caucus… they all believe that SQ 744 will be dangerous to the state’s budget.

Ask your Senator and Representative where they stand on SQ 744.  If you happen to meet a candidate for an office, ask them as well.  Then send us an e-mail (press@ofrg.org) with their answers are and we’ll post them in an upcoming blog.
